Audrey and her husband Brian bought Slaney Lodge in 1995 with a view to enjoying a quiet life in the countryside. Audrey was a nurse for many years, working on the district in Newark previous to this. She was the first person to run the kennels back in 1998. The quiet life never did happen but Audrey wouldn’t have it any other way and loves making the happiness of the animals in the care of the kennels a top priority. She has worked incredibly hard at the business for many years but is now starting to reduce her workload and begin to enjoy retirement. Outside of the business she has a son, Darren and daughter, Lisa and five grandchildren who also keep her very busy!
Lisa opened the kennels back in 1998 with her mum, Audrey. Originally working part time whilst she completed an HND in Animal Science at Brackenhurst College, Lisa went on to run the kennels full time from 2000. In 2010, she moved house to live on site and continues to live here with her husband, David and three children. As the business continues to grow, Lisa tends to be seen less with a mop in hand and more a slave to the paperwork, but still takes a ‘hands on’ role in busy periods and loves to be around the dogs in the care of the kennels
Emma started with us back in 2006 as a Saturday girl and now worked her way up to her current position as Assistant manageress. A familiar face to all our customers and their pets, Emma works tirelessly to ensure all our boarders are happy and content during their stay. Emma lives on site at the kennels and recently got engaged to her long term boyfriend. She has her own Jack Russell, Lulu who is never far from her side.
Eve has worked with us at Slaney for around 10 years on a part time basis. Eve is a great multi tasker, juggling motherhood to her one year old daughter, owning a horse at our livery yard and working hard at the kennels. She is a familiar and friendly face to all our regular customers and knows all our boarders quirks, likes and dislikes
Sue joined our team at Slaney back in 2013 after retiring from a long career in nursing and midwifery and helps us out for many of our busier weeks throughout the year. Sue has two grown up children and a menagerie of pets at home including a greyhound, shi tzu and a cavapoo.
Olivia joined us at Slaney as an apprentice back in December 2017. On completion of her apprenticeship, she has continued to work for us in a part time basis, as well as setting up her own dog walking/pet sitting service. Olivia is kind and caring with all animals. She has a particular passion for horses in her spare time and loves to compete with her own horse whenever she has the opportunity
Julie is a new member of the team, having joined us in February if this year, ready to learn the ropes in time for our busy season. Julie has worked with animals in the past, then taken a break to bring up her daughter. Now her daughter is approaching senior school age, Julie is keen to be around animals again and we look forward to introducing her to our customers and their pets. Julie has a golden retriever of her own and two ponies that she adores
Sophie is a new member of the team, joining us at the beginning of March this year. With experience in working with horses, Sophie certainly isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty and crack on with the job! Always smiley and pleasant, we are looking forward to Sophie meeting all our customers and their pets over the coming months. Sophie lives locally with her partner and has her own cockerpoo
